Senator Tammy Baldwin is praising today’s U-S Senate passage of an Iran war powers resolution that she co-sponsored (Thursday). The Wisconsin Democrat said, “the Constitution is very clear that only Congress has the authority to declare war and I joined Democrats and Republicans to ensure that President Trump comes to Congress first before pursuing any military action against Iran and starting another war in the Middle East.” Eight G-O-P senators voted for the resolution, but Wisconsin’s Ron Johnson was not one of them. President Trump had warned the Senate not to pass the measure and the White House is threatening a veto. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell opposes the resolution and it is unlikely to receive a veto-proof majority in the Republican chamber.
