The students and staff from Holy Family College in Manitowoc are taking a day off from their classes today so they can help serve the community.
We spoke with HFC President Dr. Robert Callahan, who explained that this is the third year of HFC Serves Day of Service.
The participants split into groups, who left the college at 9:30 this morning to help at 16 different places in the Manitowoc community.
Those sites include River’s Bend Health Services, the Lakeshore Humane Society, Shady Lane, The Crossing, the Salvation Army, The Haven, Peter’s Pantry, Hope House, InCourage, the Senior Center, the Miracle League of the Lakeshore, the Rahr-West Art Museum, Lakeshore Community Health Care, St. Vincent de Paul, Painting Pathways, Felician Village, and the Manitowoc Public Library.
Prior to their departure, HFC student Jenny Hill said a prayer, and Chaplain David Beaudry gave a blessing.
Every staff member and student is participating, including Dr. Callahan, who will be at Peter’s Pantry. He told SeehaferNews.com that he has never been there and is excited to help those who offer one of humanity’s most basic needs.
Also helping Holy Family College will be former NFL player and Green Bay Packer coach, Harry F. Sydney III, who runs My Brother’s Keeper out of Green Bay. Sydney will also be speaking to the students and staff later today.
Dr. Callahan praised the work of HFC Director of Marketing Amy Hanson for all the work she put into bringing Sydney to Manitowoc.
