The Fond du Lac County district attorney says the victims’ family agreed to a lighter sentence for the driver who caused a 2016 crash that killed two people.
Travis Wollersheim was sentenced to one year during a court appearance after a jury convicted him of two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.
Wollersheim could have been sentenced to 20 years.
He told investigators he was checking his mirrors to change lanes and didn’t realize the car carrying David Button and his son, Joseph, had stopped on Interstate 41.
He had no drugs or alcohol in his system and wasn’t using his phone at the time.
