The Green Bay Packers have confirmed legendary safety and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Willie Wood has died at the age of 83.
Wood’s pass interception in the first Super Bowl led to the Packers victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
He was a big part of the team’s five championships in the 1960s.
Wood was a ground-breaker as the first African-American quarterback to play in the Pacific Coast League – later the Pac-12 – when he led U-S-C’s football team.
He spent his entire 12-year professional career with Green Bay and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989.
