President Donald Trump took a huge step toward fixing the ailing farm industry by signing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) into law, and a local legislator is very pleased with this.
Congressman Glenn Grothman of Glenbeulah responded in a news release, saying, “The USMCA is the 21st century solution we need to promote free trade, economic growth and continued cooperation between the United States, Mexico and Canada. Wisconsin’s manufacturers, our world-famous dairy industry, and our entire agriculture sector, will benefit from the USMCA trade agreement.”
The USMCA has overwhelming support from both the Democrats and Republicans, with the House of Representatives passing the proposal by a 385-41 vote back in December.
Nationally Canada and Mexico represent two of our top three trading partners and account for one quarter of all U.S. exports.
In Wisconsin, 231,000 jobs rely on trade with Mexico and Canada, with nearly $11 billion in goods and services in Wisconsin were exported to our neighbors to the north and south in 2017.
