Students with long term medical conditions tend to struggle to attend school with any regularity, as some of them may be bed-ridden.
The De Pere School District is attempting to combat this issue by using technology.
There are two Beam Bots in use in the district, which a robots that are controlled remotely, and transmits video and audio to and from the student, allowing them to be in class without actually being in class.
One student utilizing this technology is 15-year-old Kai Wynkoop, who has muscular dystrophy.
He says that he really enjoys the Beam Bot because he enjoys high school.
“I like being there,” he said. “I like being able to socialize with my friends.”
Similar technology is also being used in the Appleton and Green Bay School Districts.
