A missed free throw with four seconds left in overtime cost Marquette a loss to the Providence Friars Tuesday night, 81-80.
Sophomore Brendan Bailey was fouled on a 3-point attempt, hit the first two free throws but missed the one which could have forced a second extra period.
Bailey finished with 19 points.
The two teams had traded the lead back-and-forth in the final minutes of regulation.
Senior guard Markus Howard led all scorers with 39 points.
The Friars had five players in double figures.
Marquette (11-4, 1-2 Big East) travels to Seton Hall Saturday afternoon.
