The City of Two Rivers has increased their Environmental Fee to help fund post-closure maintenance of city landfills and tree planting.
During review of the proposed 2020 City Budget, City staff, the City Council Finance Committee and Council Utilities Committee addressed the need for additional revenues in support of the Landfill Fund budget, to address a very large increase in leachate treatment costs in recent years, and the Tree Planting Fund, to offset the impacts of Emerald Ash Borer on City trees.
To address those needs, the City Council approved a $1.50 increase in the Environmental Fee, to take effect January 1, 2020.
The additional revenues derived from $1.25 of this fee increase (estimated at $75,000 annually) will be directed to the Landfill Fund; the additional revenues derived from $0.25 of this increase (estimated at $15,000 annually) be directed to the Tree Planting Fund.
