The 13-month absence of the billing coordinator for the Baraboo District Ambulance Service has left the books in disarray.
Jessica Seefeld had to leave the job for a military deployment to the Middle East.
While she was gone, the district finances were fumbled.
Losses could be in the hundreds of thousands of dollars due to uncollected bills, payments not recorded, and financial reporting mistakes.
In some cases, the wrong billing codes were used on the approximately five-thousand calls the ambulances responded to while Seefeld was gone.
No criminal wrongdoing has been alleged.
