Senator Tammy Baldwin has announced that the final defense spending bill signed into law this past Friday includes $4 million which will go toward a new Great Lakes Icebreaker.
This is a major positive for the state because, according to Baldwin, vessel delays during the past ice season were responsible for the loss of over 54 hundred jobs and $1 billion in revenues to business. That accounts for roughly $170 million in taxes.
The new ship should be ready to ready to go within the next 6 months.
