Two members of the 2019 Manitowoc Lincoln High School Football team have joined an exclusive club.
Seniors Tanner Wigand and Davis Heinzen become only the 13th & 14th athletes at Lincoln to receive FBS Division-1 football scholarships since the school opened in 1923.
During a press conference yesterday afternoon in the Lincoln Fitness Center Heinzen & Wigand signed their National Letters of Intent: Heinzen for Central Michigan, Wigand to University of Toledo.
The current Ships teammates will be on opposing sides in the future as both schools are members of the MAC (Mid-American Conference).

Davis Heinzen and Family
SeehaferNews.com asked Davis why he chose to go play for Central Michigan. He said that his family helped him set some standards for whichever school he chose, and he told us the school had “everything I wanted.”
Heinzen has dreamt of being a Tight-End ever since he was a youngster and will get that opportunity with the Chippewas. Heizen told us that they plan on starting him right a t the beginning of his freshman season.
As for why Tanner chose Toledo, he said he saw “a lot in Toldeo in winning in the MAC Conference.” =He also cited their great academic program, and how the coaching staff ensures their players leave the school with degrees.
Wigand was recruited as an offensive tackle, which means he will have to spend the forst year developing before he gets a real look. He did say however that they have spoken to him about potentially playing during his sophomore year.

Tanner Wigund and Family
Lincoln Athletic Director Dave Steavpack says Davis & Tanner did not specialize in one sport in high school, which helped them get “prepared for the next step.” He also pointed out that on top of being great athletes, Heinzen and Wigand are “outstanding students.”
Ships football coach Greg Enz stated less than 2% out of the thousands of football players in Wisconsin actually get recruited, and to see two players from the same class in the same school is incredibly rare.
Tanner the son of Randy & Darlynn Wigand will take pre-med courses at Toledo with an eye on becoming a Chiropractor. Davis, the son of Jeff & Tina Heinzen, plans to major in either Mechanical or Environmental Engineering at Central Michigan.
