The Noon Rotary Club celebrated its 100th anniversary back in June. They meet every Thursday at noon at the Manitowoc Holiday Inn.
Christine Kornely is club secretary and treasurer, and she said that to celebrate the 90th anniversary, the Club brought Rotary balloons to the grave of the original president, whom she referred to as “Mr. Vitz”. He is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Kornely tells SeehaferNews.com that the Club actually observed the 100-year milestone in June. She said that “current members and past members came to the celebration. We feel it was a landmark celebration to be around 100 years here in Manitowoc.”
Kornely is a proud third-generation Rotarian and she truly believes in their motto “Service Above Self” , and said that the club has done “so much for the community and the world.”
The club’s various fundraising projects raise money for Incourage which helps out those affected by domestic violence assisting young professionals in the community and hosting high school students of the month.
They also have a definite focus, globally. She explained that Rotary International’s main project has been eradicating Polio. “We also have connected with a Manitowoc native, Jim Naket, who works in Ghana. He does fresh water projects.” She said that he key to good health and a good life is fresh water.
Rotarians follow the 4 way test in how to live their lives, plus they believe in having fun together. New members are always welcome and those interested in joining the service club can go to their Manitowoc Noon Rotary Club website.
