On Saturday, December 7, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, 75 Maritime Drive, is hosting a community event celebrating our region’s shipbuilding and lake faring heritage while highlighting the famous Christmas Tree Ship, Rouse Simmons.
Admission to the museum and submarine is free all day and includes a number of family-friendly holiday activities:
- 830-930am: Sensory Santa. Before the Museum opens, we are offering a quiet time for families and children with disabilities to visit with Santa. Please RSVP by calling the Museum.
- 930am: Watch a fishing tug from Susie-Q Fish Company make port at the museum with fresh Christmas trees, Santa and Mrs. Claus on board.
- 930am-1230pm: Children can pose for pictures with Santa in the Maritime History Gallery.
- 11am: Enjoy a presentation on the true story of the Christmas Tree Ship Rouse Simmons from National Marine Sanctuary underwater archaeologist Russ Green.
- 930am-2pm: Make Christmas crafts and decorate cookies to take home.
Throughout the day, visitors can also enjoy a tour of the USS Cobia submarine led by World War II reenactors and veterans and enjoy all the galleries in the museum.
The Wisconsin Maritime Museum’s Christmas Tree Ship Day is possible because of the generous support from Verve Credit Union, McMullen & Pitz Construction, Drumm’s Trees and Susie-Q Fish Company.
