Some flood mitigation work and a November thaw has improved conditions at the Tri-County Regional Airport in Lone Rock.
Planes were grounded for about six weeks when flooding left more than six inches of water on the runway. That was bad enough – then the water froze and operations had to be put on hold.
Airport officials say about four-thousand feet of the five-thousand-foot runway are usable now.
The Richland County Highway Commission helped with the recovery by digging emergency ditches to drain the excess water to Bear Creek.
