The court is ordering the Milwaukee man charged with a hate crime for an acid attack to undergo a competency evaluation. Sixty-one-year-old Clifton Blackwell appeared in court today (Friday) for a preliminary examination, but his attorney had questions about his ability to assist in his own defense.
Blackwell is charged with first-degree reckless injury with a dangerous weapon as a hate crime. The complaint says he threw acid at Mahud Villalaz after he objected to Blackwell making anti-immigrant remarks and telling him to go back to his own country. Villalaz is a U-S citizen who was born in Peru.
Blackwell’s next court date in November 25th
