Two of the sweetest words with recent snow and colder than normal temperatures are SPRING TRAINING. Members of the Manitowoc Lincoln High School Baseball team will be traveling to Florida next March for workouts during the school district’s Spring break.
Ships head coach Bruce Steinbecker tells SeehaferNews.com that the varsity baseball team is headed to Vero Beach to train at the Jackie Robinson Training Center. He said “The idea is to get out of the cold, and pracivce outside right when our season begins.”
The veteran coach says there’s another benefit too. He explained, “Taking a team and spending six straight days with them, with just a couple coaches and the players, there’s no question that we are gonna bond and gel as a team.”
Steinbecker says obviously, the players are super excited for this trip, which will run from March 23rd thru the 29th, and, his goal is to be able to take a Lincoln baseball team to Florida for spring training every two years.
The plan has received the blessing of the MPSD administration and fundraising took a major step forward with a sold-out Dueling Pianos show last Saturday at Silver Valley Banquet Hall.
With airfare next March to be covered, Steinbecker says they want to make sure that all players don’t have to pay any expenses so, the ballplayers will be out doing some community service work to reach that goal.
