The American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin is urging the Menomonee Falls School Board to retire the high school’s “Indians” mascot name. A-C-L-U Wisconsin executive director Chris Ott said, “our schools should be fostering safe and inclusive learning environments for all students – not promoting racist stereotypes and imagery.” The call comes after Menomonee Falls Superintendent Corey Golla recommended the district drop the mascot name at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Public comment on the topic was split at Monday’s meeting. The school board decided to survey high school students and eighth-graders at North Middle School about the Indians nickname before making a decision. The issue will be discussed again at the November 25th meeting.
