You are listening to a song entitled “A Soldier’s Diary”. It was derived from a poem written by lakeshore native Carl Bauman during his time serving in the Vietnam War. Bauman was, as the song says, serving in Plei-Ku (PLAY-QUE) in 1965 when he wrote the heartfelt poem. The seven stanza poem was put to music by Mike Cove, and details the thoughts of a soldier in Vietnam, including thoughts of being forgotten, and the poor conditions those heroes were put through. The song is a great reminder of all the sacrifices our nations veterans gave for our freedom.
