Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu
Republican State Senator Devin Le Mahieu gave an overview of the State biennial budget signed earlier this year by Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers.
The 9th district senator from Oostburg and a member of the Joint Finance Committee tells SeehaferNews.com that “overall, it is a great budget and the Governor left the spending package pretty much intact…Overall we added $500 Million for K-12 Schools” and “some big investments in transportation.”
But, Le Mahieu explains he was disappointed with a couple of Evers’ vetoes. Le Mehieu explained that Governor Evers increased spending in education with a veto, which is a problem because, as the Senator explained, “that could be a problem down the road if Governors use the veto pen to actually increase spending, which he did by front loading it from one year to the previous.” Le Mehieu said that he believes vetoes should only be used to decrease spending.
Meanwhile, Senator Le Mahieu will be holding a series of Listening Sessions in the district next Monday. The first of 5 of those will be from 11am-Noon, when he’ll be joined by State Assemblyman Paul Tittl in the Council Chambers at Manitowoc City Hall.
