Phil Kinzel, respected local thespian, will read favorite works by Edgar Allan Poe at LaDeDa Books & Beans, 1624 New York Ave, 7:30 Thursday, October 31. There is no charge for the one-hour program, but freewill offerings for Gumby’s Club for a Cure will be accepted.
For this event, Kinzel has selected a blend of Poe’s macabre tales along with some of his more sensitive works, and pieces many people may not be familiar with. Selections will include “The Conqueror Worm,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “Dream Within a Dream,” “To Helen,” “The Raven, “Annabel Lee,” and “The Bells”.
Kinzel describes Poe as “…an amazing talent, who was largely misunderstood. He possessed a deep sensitivity to humanity – an understanding of human needs for connection and affection.” Kinzel began his career teaching high school English and Speech. In 1980, he was certified in law enforcement, working as Manitowoc’s Crime Prevention Office. Many will remember him for his Office Ollie programs and as a D.A.R.E instructor.
Kinzel has been a staple on local stages performing with Masquers, Forst Inn, Heart-A-Rama, KB Productions, as well as scripting reading for small venues throughout Manitowoc.
