Governor Evers has called the Senate back to Madison next month to take up proposed gun control legislation that he says eight out of ten people in Wisconsin support. One is to call for more through and extensive background checks-the second is to institute “red flag” laws that would allow for an individual to have their guns legally taken away if they are determined to be a threat to others or themselves.
In a recent interview with SeehaferNews.com, 25TH District Assembly Representative Paul Tittl of Manitowoc said he’s spoken to some that were surveyed in that recent Marquette University Law School Poll and found out that in his words “there’s a lot of misconceptions out there”.
He said that some people believe that you can just order a gun online, but that is not the case. “Anything that you would buy on the internet would have to be shipped to a gun dealer, and then pass a background check, and then you can pick it up from that gun dealer.”
Another one according to the Manitowoc Republican is that there are no laws currently in place to remove guns from those deemed to be a threat. Tittl said he recently completed serving on the State’s Suicide Task Force. He explained that “If you think someone is suicidal, or will hurt themselves or others, there are laws in place right now to go ahead and make sure that person gets the help they need, and get the guns out of the home.”
Tittl adds that the Governor’s proposed “red flag” laws could potentially hinder one’s right to “due process” in court. “It seems like you’re guilty until proven innocent,” he stated. E also said that similar laws have been put in place in other states, which ended up costing those effected a lot of money.
Governor Evers has called for the Senate to show up November 7th and vote either up or down on these issues adding they owe it to the citizens of the state to do so. Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said earlier this week that they (the senators) will show up–then he plans to gavel out without any action to be taken on the floor.
