The National Transportation Safety Board has released its preliminary findings in the plane vs truck crash in Ledgeview last week that killed two men.
According to their report, the pilot of the plane, John Fiddelke, was attempting to land at Martins Aerodrome on October 17th but had expressed concerns to a mechanic earlier in the day about the wet turf runway at that location. That being said, the weather was not considered a factor in the accident.
The exact reason that Fiddelke decided to fly only 5 feet off the ground is not yet known.
Fiddelke died the evening of the crash, while the driver of the truck, Patrick Schounard died on October 20th, his 51st birthday. A full report of the incident is not expected for 6 to 12 months.
