Lawrence (Larry) Rubick of Newberry, Michigan received a medal for his age-group Friday night upon completion of the 11th annual Rubick Glow Run & Walk. The uncle of the late Ron Rubick, after whom the former Municipal Field is named, turns 91 this week and completed the 5K course in a wheelchair, pushed by his daughter Patty.
Larry Rubick tells SeehaferNews.com he’s got a list of heroes and saints, saying “My list is about 10 people, and he definitely was one,” in reference to Ron. “He never was drinking, was never on drugs, he never smoked, he never used foul language. He was just the perfect nephew. I wish he would have been my son.”
The Korean War veteran and a natural resources warden during his working years reminisced about the way his son Robb, and Ron interacted. “Him and Ron would go at each other on the basketball hoop,” he recalled. ”My son was 6’ 4” I don’t think Ron was 6’, but he could out quick him (Robb). They really went at it.”
Larry’s son Robb Rubick played tight-end in the NFL with the Detroit Lions.
