The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is advising drivers to keep an extra keen eye out for deer in the next few weeks. The deer rut will really kick into high gear during this time, causing them to move around a lot more, potentially in front of your moving vehicle.
Last year four people died and 515 people were injured across over 20,000 vehicle crashes with deer, causing millions in total damage.
Director of the DOT’s Bureau of Transportation Safety David Pabst notes that deer can be seen any time of day, but are especially active around dusk and dawn. He recommends people slow down, buckle up and careful scan the roadway ahead to help minimize your risk of colliding with the animals.
