A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that Affairs to Remember, a formal clothing store in Manitowoc, was planning on closing their doors. We reached out to Nichole Patrick, the owner of the business, and she told SeehafeNews.com that they simply cannot compete with the online market anymore. She admits that she shops online too for a variety of things, and “Formal wear just isn’t immune to it.”
Another reason Patrick’s business has been struggling is due to the designers they deal with. “They put a lot of stipulation on us as retailers,” she explained. “They set the price…and they also tell you how many pieces you have to have in your store.” She said that even though she owned the business, it was like there was a foot coming down on top of them holding them back.
Nichole also said that they plan to remain open until December 31st, and while that is a couple of months away, they still have a vast array of dresses to sell. Nichole said that they do have a plan if they still have product left after they close. The prom dresses will likely be donated to the local high schools so “those who are less fortunate still have something to wear for their upcoming proms.” As for the bridal dresses, they will be going to a church in Waukesha, who gives them to military families.
Nichole told us that while it is sad to see this chapter of her and her husband’s life come to an end, she is excited about the future. “I do feel like I’m ready to move on,” Nichole said. “Another part that is kind of exciting to this adventure is to see what our building will be utilized for….It’s a great spot.”
As of right now, they have everything discounted at 20% off, but as time goes on that percentage will become larger. Affairs to Remember is located at 4683 Expo Drive, just off of Rapids Road.
