A bill that would eliminate Wisconsin’s six-month waiting period for getting married after a divorce is closer to become law. The bi-partisan measure had hearings last week and gained unanimous support in the Assembly. Wisconsin is one of six states that requires a waiting period to remarry. Supporters say there is no evidence that a waiting period after a finalized divorce reduces divorce rates in the state. The Wisconsin Family Council said removing the six-month wait is ill advised especially when minor children are involved.
