On Tuesday, October 1 at 9:30 a.m. the Sheboygan Police responded to Farnsworth Middle School after being contacted by the school. It was reported by one of the administrators that they had noticed one of the students smelled like marijuana. When the responding officer arrived they also detected the odor of marijuana coming from the student and believed that the 13-year-old boy was probably in possession. He was taken into custody. During a search, an unloaded firearm was found in his backpack.
The boy reported to the police that he had no intention of using the firearm at school or to harm anybody. At this time there have been no reports that the boy had made any threats to harm anybody. It was learned through further investigation that the boy had previously stolen the firearm from a friend’s home.
Officers from the police department continue to work on this investigation. He is being referred for the charges of possession of a dangerous weapon by a minor, possession of a firearm in a school zone, possession of drug paraphernalia, and burglary.
In a press release, the Sheboygan Police Department said, “The safety of our students is a top priority for both the Sheboygan Area School District and the SPD. We encourage people to continue to have conversations with your children about the importance of reporting any unsafe or suspicious behavior and also about the potential consequences for participating in criminal behavior that creates fear in our schools.”
