Husky Energy says the Wisconsin D-N-R is giving it approval to rebuild its oil refinery in Superior after a major explosion and fires. The company plans to begin construction on the 400-million-dollar plant right away and hopes to resume operations in 2021. The April 2018 explosions and fires injured 36 people and forced the evacuation of most of Superior. Tribal leaders, residents and the mayors of Duluth and Superior urged Husky not to use hydrogen fluoride in the refining process and recommended using an alternative fuel. The refinery has about 200 permanent employees.
