The Prevent Suicide Manitowoc County 8th Annual Walk/Run for Hope is only a couple of days away, and one group will be walking with more than themselves on the 5K track. Shanen Daly of Manitowoc lost her son to suicide back in 2016, and has become very active in the families of suicide community. One group she became involved with is called 22 Too Many, who strives to spread awareness of PTSD, serve as a living memorial for the veterans who have died by suicide, and to provide comfort and support to those left behind. Shanen told SeehaferNews.com that she was introduced to 22 Too Many via a Facebook group she is a part of for the families of veterans who died by suicide. “Since I had submitted my son’s information to their organization…(he) has been carried by multiple runners that have attended events such as triathlons and so-forth.”
Shanen has a group of her and her son Morgan’s family and friends that will be participating at the Walk for Hope on Saturday, and are returning the favor. She affectionately names the group “Morgan’s Crew”, and the group of 30 will each be carrying a fallen hero.
To quote a song written by David Draiman, “Those who are not remembered cannot survive,” a sentiment echoed by Shanen. “I felt that the opportunity to carry a fallen hero is important to keep their memory alive,” she said. “To give the families of these fallen heroes the comfort that their person, whether it be a father, son, brother, sister, and so forth, that their memory is still kept alive.”
