Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels went to Facebook yesterday afternoon to talk about the winter parking ban. As it sits right now, citizens cannot park on the street overnight while the ban is in effect, regardless of the weather. This is so snow plows will have an easier job getting the streets nice and clean for the morning commute. Mayor Nickels proposed that the ban be adjusted to only be in effect when snow is expected to fall. In his post, the Mayor said “Currently there are 120 days (between December 1 and March 31) where you cannot park on those streets overnight. My proposal would allow you to park an estimated 90 days (depending on the winter season) that you aren’t allowed to now.” He ended the post by asking for the public’s input on the matter, saying “What are your thoughts or additional ideas? Or, is this the dumbest idea you ever heard?”
