A 31-year-old Manitowoc woman facing several charges in connection to an animal mistreatment case has her plea date hearing delayed until November. Jennifer E. Nettles is charged with one felony count of Mistreatment of Animals/causing death and three misdemeanors in the death of a dog and starvation of a second canine at her home.
Last December, police found Nettles and her husband James arguing over the death of one of their two dogs. Officers found both animals were kept downstairs. The deceased canine had no food in its stomach or small intestines while the other dog suffered from starvation and was extremely underweight and dehydrated.
James Nettles was sentenced last week to two years’ probation and 60 days stayed in the County Jail to be imposed at the Probation Officers discretion and upon court order.
Jennifer Nettles is free on a $1,500 recognizance bond and is due back in court November 26th at 2:30.
