Former Nurse Accused Of Abusing Infants Agrees To Plead Guilty

A former nurse at UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital in Madison has agreed to plead guilty to an unspecified number of felony charges.  Forty-three-year-old Christopher M. Kaphaem is accused of abusing infants in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.  He was charged with 19 felonies after a suspension last February.  The babies were injured over a period of nearly two years, with one suffering a skull fracture.  The hospital has been cited by federal officials for allegedly failing to respond adequately.
