Dozens of people gathered in the misty, windy weather on Thursday in Two Rivers for the groundbreaking ceremony for the incoming Cobblestone Hotel. The Wisconsin based hotel chain will be building on the site of the old Suettinger Building, which is only a couple of blocks off of Washington Street down 16th Street. Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley spoke about the importance of the new addition to the City, proclaiming “The investment being made at this site by the Two Rivers Hotel group creating 55 new hotel rooms, in the heart of our downtown, in a waterfront redevelopment corridor that we have made a priority is a big deal.”
He made sure to thank the private investors involved in making the project a reality, calling them the key. “Rick Carey and his fellow investors have recognized the potential of this area of our city, and of this beautiful site with its great views in all directions.” He also quipped that Two Rivers has the best beach in Wisconsin.
Rodger Russove then spoke about how the location is perfect for getting to the many attractions and shops in the Cool City, as most of them are within reasonable walking distance from the hotel site. State Senator Andre Jacque and Assemblyman Shae Sortwell were also on hand to celebrate the newest addition to Two Rivers.
