Today is the day that the Wall That Heals makes its trek from the Two Rivers Armory to the Manitowoc County Expo Grounds. The President of the Manitowoc County Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Terry Johnson said that they “will have a motorcycle escort, and from what I understand, we are gonna have several hundred, and maybe more.”
Dale Schroeder is the man responsible for organizing the processional, and he told SeehaferNews.com that he has been contacted by a wide variety of people who wish to be a part of it. “We are gonna have a lot of motorcycles.” He explained. “I’m receiving a lot of calls from people as far as Montana that are coming out here to help escort the wall.”
Schroeder explained that the escort will start at 4 p.m. at the National Guard Armory on Sandy Bay Road, and will travel to 22nd Street onto Washington Street. It will then travel along Lake Michigan on Maritime Drive until 10th Street in Manitowoc. They will then go south on 10th Street to Washington Street, and will follow that through Calumet Avenue to Rapids Road. After turning south on Rapids, they will turn into the Expo Grounds.
The escort will happen rain or shine, the only exception being if there is a massive storm that requires it to be canceled for safety reasons. The VVA is asking for people to line the escort path to show reverence for the Wall and the over 58,000 people who have their name etched into it.
