From September 16th – 27th, the Point Beach Nuclear Plant will be performing maintenance on a number of sirens located within ten miles of the plant in northeast Manitowoc County. Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Travis Waack said in a news release, that these sirens are owned and maintained by the plant and activated by Manitowoc County during emergencies. During the testing, residents may hear actual siren activations for approximately one to three minutes and notice activity going on around the siren sites. Routine maintenance helps to ensure that sirens around the plant are in working order. If members of the public are unsure whether or not the activities may be related to the maintenance, call (920) 683-4201 for verification.
