The Roncalli High School Football team will be seeking its’ 2nd victory of the young season this Friday night at Oconto. The Jets defeated Milwaukee Obama SCTE, 48-to-8 in their opener last Friday at Rubick Field. During an interview with 4th year head coach Scott Senglaub, he talked about Game-1 and an unfamiliar opponent from the southern part of the state. “It was a challenge for us as a group,” he said, “overall it was a great win. I saw some very positive things out of our team.” Early in the season Senglaub said they’re going through a whole learning process with a lot of new kids coming in, and is challenging the players to get better every day.
This Friday’s opponent, Oconto, from the M and O Packerland large dropped its’ season opener to Rosholt, 20-12, but Senglaub is telling his players not to look at the wins and losses of their opponent. “We’re gonna need to improve,” he said bluntly. “It’s gonna be a challenge for us, and a challenge for them. They also have some young kids, and it’s going to be who can piece together better improvement for Friday night.”
As for personnel, Senglaub says the offensive line will be anchored by Trevor Fiecko, who’s a two-year lettermen, and he referred to Hunter Chalupny & Jack Wagner as those converted linemen. Brady Norell switches from runningback to quarterback and has picked up the offense very well. Bryce Pautz & Derek Reimer are wingbacks Connor Jacoby returns at fullback, and Cole Haney & Ethan Jacquart are starting ends. On defense, Senglaub sees a strength at the Linebacker position and they’ll be featured on that side of the ball.
Coach Senglaub will not be with the team this weekend as he and his family travel to Montgomery, Alabama for his son Collin’s wedding. He turns over the coaching reins to his top assistants, Paul Konsella and Louie Vigue. Friday’s game will be broadcast on 980 WCUB, starting at 6:45 p.m.
