City of Green Bay Alderman Mark Steuer is attempting to nix the 2 our overnight parking ban in the city. The way the law reads now, parking is not allowed on city streets from 3:00-5:00 a.m., which is a problem for some families, who cannot fit all of their cars into the garage and driveway. Steuer explained, “You have situations where there are children at home, people coming in from out of town. You have more opportunities for cars and a lot of these homes were not built to take on those extra vehicles.” His proposal would allow overnight parking on alternate sides of the street based on the day, but only if the vehicle owner owns a permit. This would compensate for the money lost from ticketing those vehicles. The city’s parking director disagrees with Steuer, saying the ban is needed for efficient street sweeping and snow plowing, along with the quality of life.
