Locally, enthusiasm and optimism are certainly evident at Training Camp for the Manitowoc Lincoln High School Football team this summer. The Ships, under the guidance of new head coach Greg Enz, opened camp just over two weeks ago with Opening Night tomorrow at Bay Port.
Enz says he likes the numbers for his varsity squad. He told SeehaferNews.com he has 22 seniors 21 juniors and a couple of sophomores working with the varsity squad as well. “It’s nice to have when I hear a lot of my colleagues who are struggling with numbers in the 30s at larger schools. That’s a credit to the community and their support of football.”
The Coach said the Shipbuilders had a combined practice with Fond du Lac on one of the allowed contact days last month, and then last Friday Lincoln scrimmaged two teams at Kenosha. The scrimmages really showed the coaching staff how much his team has improved over the past couple of months. Enz said “I along with the staff are happy with it, but we do know we have a lot of growth to improve upon.”
About their season opener against Bay Port, an FRCC powerhouse, Enz says he wants that challenge for his rebuilding program. “We are going to be better because of Bay Port. They have set the standard for how many years…I love the fact that we get that” to start the year off.
The Shipbuilders offense this season will have a spread look with a run/pass option directed by senior quarterback Josh Hoffman, a 1,000+ yard passer last Fall. On defense, they’ll have a 4-2 with different looks out of that alignment. Lincoln at Bay Port tomorrow night will be broadcast on AM 980 WCUB, starting at 6:45.
