Both the Brewers and Cardinals picked up a game on the NL-Central Division-leading Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee rallied for a 6-5 win over Minnesota at Miller Park yesterday afternoon to close within a game and a half of the first place Cubs, who were hammered in Philadelphia 11-1, while St. Louis moved into a first place tie after a 6-0 victory over the Royals.
The Brewers trailed the Twins 5-3 until the bottom of the 8th, when Ryan Braun reached on a throwing error. Hernan Perez followed with a single before rookie Trent Grisham stepped in against Sergio Romo, and blasted his second homer of the year over the right field wall. Matt Albers then escaped a bases-loaded, two out jam in the Twins 9th by inducing a flyout to deep left-center by C.J. Cron. Albers gets his 4th save Junior Guerra improves to 6-3 after working 2 scoreless innings. Mitch Garver, Eddie Rosario & Miguel Sano each hit solo homers for Minnesota, which has a major league leading 233 homeruns this season.
The Brewers at 63-58 have the day off, and they’ll fly out to Washington D.C. this evening for a 3-game weekend series against the Nationals, who now lead the NL Wildcard chase.
