Summer is drawing to a close, and the Manitowoc Public School District is preparing to welcome students back to school. Superintendent Mark Holzman told SeehaferNews.com that there are a lot of activities scheduled leading up to the start of school in early September, including professional development courses throughout August. Holzman also spoke about how new teachers get prepared for their first year in the Manitowoc Public School District, “On August 19th our new teachers are going to come in. Our new teachers are all given a mentor, and they come in for the first week, and learn a little bit about, ‘Where’s my room’ ‘What curriculum books do I have?’”
As for the returning staff, they will come in the next week. “We have a kind of welcome back address,” Holzman explained. “Talk a little bit about some of the exciting things that are coming up for the year, and celebrate some of the people that have been there for many years.”
This week is orientation week for the incoming 6th graders at Washington and Wilson Middle schools, and the first day of school for students in grades 5K through 12 will be on Friday, September 6th, with the 4K students coming in for their first day the following Monday.
