Manitowoc Public Utilities has contracted with Utility Services Associates LLC, to acoustically survey water mains and services throughout the City of Manitowoc for underground water leaks. The work involves a two-person crew using electronic equipment to “listen” to water valves, hydrants, and water curb stops to pinpoint leaks on underground water mains and services. Utility Services personnel will typically work from dawn to dusk, Monday through Friday. The survey begins on August 5th and will continue through the end of September. Most of the work will be performed in the road right-of-way, but in some areas, the public water main may pass thorough an easement between and behind properties. In some cases, it may be necessary for personnel to locate and dig up the curb stop in the terrace, or in the lawn just behind the sidewalk.
