Limits on the amount of full-contact practices Wisconsin high school football teams can conduct have had an immediate impact on the number of concussions. The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association implemented the rules starting in 2014. A study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine found the number of concussions suffered among high school football players has dropped by 57 percent. Opponents of the rules worry limiting contact during practices will lead to poor technique, eventually increasing the risk of serious injury during games.
