Two persons from Iron Mountain, Michigan were injured yesterday following a work zone crash in the Town of Newton. Manitowoc County Sheriff Dan Hartwig says that a preliminary investigation indicates that 54-year-old Raymond Panick was traveling southbound on I-43 just after 12 p.m. when he entered a work zone and struck a trailer attached to a county highway truck. The trailer had a digital speed board to inform motorists of their speed within the work zone. Panick and his passenger, 49-year old Lori Price both suffered minor injuries and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. No maintenance workers were hurt. Distracted driving was said to be a contributing factor and Panick was cited for inattentive driving, operating without a license and not having insurance. Assisting on scene were the Manitowoc Fire and Rescue, Manitowoc Fire Department, Manitowoc Police Department, Manitowoc County Highway Department, Custer Street Towing and Hi-Way 42 Garage.
