Tonight marks the beginning of the 9th annual Gumby’s Club Fore a Cure. The fundraiser generates money to give to area families who are dealing with cancer. Co-founder Rob Roseff tells SeehaferNews.com the idea started in 2011 when he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. “After I got diagnosed, is said ‘Something’s gotta be done,’” Roseff said, “I got together with a group of friends and put together the first golf outing. Our hope was to get 10 of my friends together at $25 apiece and play golf.” They also hope to raise $250 to donate to Relay For Life.
They ended up getting 54 people to play and help raise money for the cancer support organization. After raising over $5,000 in the first year, Roseff said his group of friends told him “Oh my God, that was really fun! Let’s do it again!”
And, here they are 9 years later with a Glow Run and Walk tonight starting at 8:30, at Meadow Lanes North/MeadowLinks. Those who haven’t signed up yet, but would like to do so, can register on-site before 8:00 o’clock this evening. On Sunday, there’s a Gumby’s Golf & Bowling event at Meadow Sports Complex to also include testimonials, live music, food, and refreshments.
