The Sheboygan Fire Department was called to assist a capsized boat yesterday morning. The call came in just after 9:30 AM, reporting the overturned kayak and a 36 year old male in the water near Lake Michigan’s North Point. Heavy waves measuring around 3 feet high blowing due south made a self-rescue impossible as the individual was about 75 yards off shore. Hypothermia was also a concern as the water was estimated to be in the upper 40’s to lower 50’s. The kayaker was wearing a life vest, which the SFD claims contributed to his survival. The man was safely returned to shore shortly after the SFD, Sheboygan Police Department and the US Coast Guard arrived on the scene. The man was treated on the scene by paramedics and released.
