A 778-million dollar plan backed by the U-S Army Corps of Engineers is aimed at keeping the invasive Asian carp from getting into Lake Michigan. Leaders from eight states and two Canadian provinces will meet in Chicago next month to discuss how to pay for it. The Corps would install electric barriers, noise-makers and other devices to stop the fish from entering the lake from the Illinois River. The meeting was announced last week during a gathering of those leaders in Milwaukee. Illinois is ready to pay for some of the expense, but it wants other states and provinces to help.
