In a story that seems to foreshadow what is to come in Manitowoc County, Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson has vetoed a half percent sales tax increase, as was approved by the County Board last week. Nelson defends his stance by saying “I’ve done my best to oppose this initiative because I believe it hurts more than it helps.” Nelson also pointed out that he feels the proposal was rushed through with very little public input. County Board Chairman Jeff Nooyen defended the tax saying that most people wouldn’t even notice the change. A similar situation is brewing in Manitowoc County as well, with the County Board working on a proposal, despite the adamant opposition from County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer.
