The State of Wisconsin will be spending more on education that it ever has in the history of the state. Representative Terry Katsma of Oostburg was one of 11 on the Joint Committee on Finance to continue Republicans’ historic investment in Wisconsin students, teachers and schools, with only 4 people opposing. This investment devotes $200 per pupil in additional funding for the first year, and $204 per pupil in the second year of the budget, with a majority of these funds being infused directly into classrooms, while also recommitting the state to two-thirds funding of K-12 schools. In addition to the increase for per-pupil aid, the Republicans’ budget also increases investments in special education by nearly $100 million; doubles the commitment to mental health programs; fully funds high-cost transportation for our rural schools; and fully funds the School Day Milk Program for low-income pupils.
