Second District Assemblyman Shae Sortwell of Two Rivers allegedly displayed his holstered gun in Democratic State Representative Sheila Stubbs’ Capitol Office earlier this year. The State Capitol allows firearms on the premises, but officials can ban them in their offices. According to a story in The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Stubbs’ aide, Savion Castro says Sortwell came into Stubbs’ Capitol Office in late February or early March to talk about legislation to help barbers get licensed. According to Castro, the Two Rivers Republican remarked that he thought Stubbs’ sign banning guns in her office was silly and pulled back his coat to reveal his holstered weapon. The newspaper reached out to Sortwell and said he declined to comment. The story adds that once legislative leaders learned about this, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos ordered Assembly Chief Clerk Patrick Fuller to speak with Sortwell. According to a Vos spokeswoman the conversation did take place and there is no word on what came of it. Meanwhile, the article states that Stubbs would like an apology from the local lawmaker, but states that it’s unlikely to happen. Seehafer News is attempting to reach out to Sortwell for comment.
