2nd District State Assemblyman, Shae Sortwell, of Two Rivers is joining fellow Republicans in calling to use an additional $753 million dollar surplus for tax relief. Updated revenue figures show the budget surplus from the last biennium rose that amount over the earlier expected amount of $1.6 billion. In a statement today, Representative Sortwell said, “Governor Walker and the Republican Legislature left us in an even stronger fiscal position than we thought.” He added, “Republicans in the Assembly are united. This $753 million in unexpected revenue must go back to the taxpayers, or bolster our rainy-day fund. The government should ‘not’ take more than it needs..that money belongs to the people who earned it through hard work.” Sortwell expressed hope Democratic Governor Tony Evers will quote, “join us to return this money to its’ rightful owners, instead of pushing for more government boondoggles.”
